Notifications
[Important] On the expected changes from AY2026 Entrance Examinations (conducted in AY2025) (released on June 21, 2024)
We expect the following changes in the AY2026 entrance examinations (conducted in AY2025) of our graduate school. For details, please refer to the admission guide for the graduate school and the admission guide for each department, which will be released in late April 2025 (TBD).
・Regarding the screening process for the Doctoral program (Regular Admission and Special Selection for Professionals), the distinction between primary and secondary examinations will be abolished. In the AY2026 Summer Entrance Examinations (conducted in AY2025), all the examinations will be held in the summer of 2025, and the results will be announced in September 2025. Similarly, in the Winter Entrance Examinations, all the examinations will be held in winter and the results will be announced in February 2026.
The same changes are expected to apply to AY2027 (conducted in AY2026) and later Entrance Examinations as well.
On the Entrance Examination Briefing for AY2025 Entrance Examinations (released on Mar 22, 2024)
Entrance Examination Briefing for AY2025 Entrance Examinations will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
Those who wish to participate in the briefing should submit the entry form.

As announced in the notification released on June 21, 2023, the method of the entrance examination in Special Admission for “English Program on Intelligent Information Processing” in our graduate school will be partly changed. The expected changes are as follows.
- In the Special Admission for “English Program on Intelligent Information Processing” for AY2025 Entrance Examinations (conducted in AY2024), the following changes are expected. The detail of the Special Admission including the changes will be released by around July 2024.
- Applications to Master’s Program and Doctoral Program via the Special Admission will be limited to those who wish to apply to Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students (University Recommendation).
- The examination fee will be revised to 30,000 yen.
- The schedule will be brought forward by about one month from that of the AY2024 Entrance Examinations (conducted in AY2023).
- From the AY2026 Entrance Examinations (conducted in AY2025), the Special Admission for “English Program on Intelligent Information Processing” will be abolished. For the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students (University Recommendation), which was applicable via the special admission, a new application scheme is expected to be introduced.
Overview of the Entrance Examination System
An overview of the types of entrance examinations and the schedule for AY2025 entrance examinations (conducted in AY2024) at this Graduate School is given in the following document.
Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT) Scholarship students (Research Students) (Embassy Recommendation) will be accepted as Graduate International Research Students (non-degree) at this Graduate School, in principle. Please refer to here for more details. If the applicant wishes to proceed to the Master's or Doctoral programs after they entered as a Graduate International Research Student, they will need to take and pass the entrance examinations (Regular Admission or Special Selection for Professionals).
*AY stands for "academic year". In Japan, each academic year is from April to March in the next year.

The application periods for AY2025 entrance examinations (conducted in AY2024) for Master's and Doctoral programs (entrance date: October 2024, April 2025, or October 2025) (Regular Admission and Special Selection for Professionals) are as follows.

1. Prepare the necessary materials for your application
Check the Admission Guide of the Graduate School and your preferred department and prepare the necessary materials for your application.
Please keep the original of the Academic Transcript submitted as a copy during the admission process, as it is required at the time of enrollment procedure. The original of Certificate of Graduation/Completion/Degree is also required at the time of enrollment procedure.
2. Enter the required information to the WEB Application System below and create the application form

Even if you create the application form, your application will not be completed until all required items are uploaded and also until you "confirm" your application on " My Page" before the deadline. Refer to instructions on "My Page" about how to "confirm" your application, etc.
Convert all the required documents into PDF files , and after you have uploaded them to the WEB Application System:My Page (available after creating the application form), click "Confirm" to “confirm” your application .

5. Submission of Recommendation Letters (Only for applicants who are required to submit)
- Examinees should ask their recommenders to provide a Recommendation Letter. Examinees applying to the Department of Information and Communication Engineering are required to download the specific form from here and send it to their recommenders.
- Examinees should register the necessary information about the examinees (their application receipt numbers, names, email addresses, etc.) and their recommenders (names, affiliations, positions, email addresses, etc.) through the " Registration Form for Recommender". (available from May 31)
- The URL for uploading the recommendation letter will be notified to the recommender by email.
- The recommender should upload the recommendation letter to the website indicated in that email. 【The deadline for uploading the recommendation letter】 23:59 (JST), June 13 (Thu), 2024
- After the recommender completes uploading, both the recommender and the examinee will receive a confirmation message by email.

[Important] On TOEFL Score submission for the entrance examination of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo ( released on Dec 26, 2023)
This information regarding the submission of TOEFL scores for AY2025 entrance examinations will be officially finalized and released in the admission guide in late April 2024 (TBD). Please note that applicants for the AY2025 entrance examinations must submit their scores as instructed in ‘Guidelines for Submission of TOEFL Scores (for AY2025 Entrance Examinations)’ (*1). Also, please kindly note that applicants must obtain their scores before applying for the entrance examinations (*2). This will also apply to the entrance examinations for AY2026 and the following years, as we have announced on December 28th, 2021.
(*1) If these ‘Guidelines for Submission of TOEFL Scores (for AY2025 Entrance Examinations)’ are changed later, the details will be announced on this webpage.
